Microsoft, NBA partners to personalize fan experience with AI

Microsoft Corp. will become the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s Official Artificial Intelligence Partner to create a new and innovative way to give fans a better experience.

The two organizations will collaborate on a Microsoft Azure platform that will use machine learning and AI to bring personalized content to fans, such as next-generation game broadcasts. The NBA fanbase, which includes the 1.8 billion online followers across the league, can expect customized and localized experiences through the platform.

Boasting state-of-the-art machine learning, the platform will include delivering live broadcasts, an overwhelming amount of data sources and historical video archive, and unique insights. NBA and Microsoft hope to give the fans content that is tailored to each individual and bring them closer to the game.

“This partnership with Microsoft will help us redefine the way our fans experience NBA basketball,” said Adam Silver, NBA commissioner. “Our goal, working with Microsoft, is to create customized content that allows fans — whether they are in an NBA arena or watching from anywhere around the world to immerse themselves in all aspects of the game and engage directly with our teams and players.”
