After facing criticism over its efforts to protect workers from the COVID-19 pandemic, online retailer Amazon.com launches an artificial intelligence-based tracking system.
Called Distance Assistant, the program uses camera footage on Amazon’s offices and warehouses to monitor the staff. On a connected screen, workers in safe distances will appear in green circles, while those closer to them will be highlighted in red. It will allow the company to monitor not only their staff but also of visitors during work hours.
The company has also been hiring social distancing ambassadors to do frequent audits. Additionally, it will be testing a wearable device that lights up and signals when workers are too close to each other.
In a bid to reduce any risk of contracting the coronavirus among its workers, Amazon continues to explore new ways of maintaining safety protocols.
